Service overview
You need this license to perform apprentice work on fire suppression systems, including:
- Installation.
- Alteration.
- Repair.
- Testing.
- Maintenance.
- Inspection or certification.
You must be currently enrolled in a Registered Fire Suppression Systems Apprentice Program that consists of at least 8,000 hours of documented practical experience in the installation or maintenance of fire suppression systems and at least 800 hours of classroom, shop or related instruction in the fire suppression system trade.
All work must be performed under a licensed fire suppression systems contractor. This license does not allow you to operate a business.
The Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I) issues this license.

Any person enrolled in a Fire Suppression Systems Apprentice Program can apply for this license.
Requirements
Proof of apprenticeship
You must submit proof of enrollment in a registered fire suppression system apprentice program. The program must be registered with the United States Department of Labor or a State Apprenticeship Council.

Cost
A non-refundable application fee of $20 is applied to the license fee. The balance of the license fee is due once your application is approved.

You can apply for this license online using eCLIPSE or in person at the Permit and License Center.
Online
Applications are reviewed within five business days.
If the application isn’t approved, you will receive an email stating what is missing or required.
In person
L&I can review most applications while you wait.
Renewal requirements
You must renew this license every three years. You can renew online through eCLIPSE or in person at the Permit and License Center.
To renew your license, you must provide proof of continued enrollment in a Registered Apprenticeship Program.
