Service overview
This law goes into effect on April 7, 2026. Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I) – Quality of Life (QOL) will start accepting complaints on that date.
Third-party reservation services are not allowed to charge a fee for scheduling restaurant reservations, unless the restaurant has given written permission first.
If you believe a third-party reservation service is breaking the law, you can file a complaint with the Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I) – Quality of Life (QOL).
Who
This is a complaint against a Third-Party Reservation Service, not a restaurant. When you submit a complaint, you must be able to confirm the following:
- The restaurant is a Full-Service Restaurant as defined by NAICS Code 722511.
- The restaurant has not granted written authorization to the Third-Party Reservation Service to charge, collect, or receive a fee, directly or indirectly, for scheduling reservations at the establishment.
How
When you file a complaint, you must provide a picture that shows the Third-Party Reservation Service advertising reservations for the restaurant.
