Request a crossing guard for an intersection near your school

Service overview

School crossing guards contribute to the success of Philadelphia students and are important to school communities.

Crossing guards stop and direct traffic at assigned intersections to protect children walking to and from school. Crossing guards work part-time, rain or shine, on school days from 7 to 9 a.m. and from 2 to 4 p.m., with adjustments for early dismissal days.

Requirements

In order to have a crossing guard request granted:

  • The requesting school must serve grades K-5.
  • The intersection must be within two blocks of the school.

All crossing guard requests are evaluated by the School Crossing Guard Program.

How

To request a crossing guard, email the School Crossing Guard Unit at cgstreets@phila.gov or call (215) 988-8063.
