Enforcing Tobacco Laws

Cigarette

We help restaurants and retailers follow tobacco laws and we make it easy for Philadelphians to report illegal indoor smoking and youth sales.

Tobacco Retailers
Philadelphia is home to more than 4,500 tobacco retailers, or one retailer for every 320 residents: that’s more retailers per capita than any other major city in the US. Constant advertising, ease of access, and illegal sales all make youth likely to start smoking at a young age and continue smoking as adults.

Tobacco retailers can prevent illegal tobacco sales to youth in their community by not selling to anyone under 18 and reporting other stores that sell to youth. Help us protect our youth from starting to smoke.

Restaurant Owners
Most indoor public spaces in Philadelphia are smoke-free, including, but not limited to:

  • restaurants
  • bars
  • hotels
  • clubs
  • stores
  • malls
  • sports venues
  • offices
  • factories
  • public areas in private buildings
  • commercial and government buildings
  • public transportation vehicles and facilities
  • day care centers and vehicles used for day care transportation

Philadelphia is proud to celebrate over four years of being smoke-free in these public places. Please help us to uphold our current Clean Indoor Air Law by abiding by the ordinance provisions as a restaurant owner and reporting illegal smoking within a facility.

NOTE: The Clean Indoor Air Law makes indoor and outdoor spaces of bars, restaurants and cafes 100% smoke-free.
