Code Bulletin of Information Code Bulletins of Information are essentially process documents that clarify the application of a section or sections of one or more of the subcodes of the Philadelphia Building Construction and Occupancy Code.
The purpose of Code Bulletins of Information is to state the department's official position and provide direction to departmental staff and to code users, regarding the scope of the referenced code sections or regarding the procedure of applying the referenced code sections.
Code Interpretations Code Interpretations are technical documents that provide formal interpretations regarding the application of certain code sections of one or more of the subcodes of the Philadelphia Building Construction and Occupancy Code referenced in the document.
The purpose of Code Interpretations is to officially resolve questions of code intent or purpose that arose from the experience of applying particular code sections. They are issued for consistent code application by departmental staff and code users.
Variances of General Application Variances of General Application are official code variances issued by the Department of Licenses and Inspections Commissioner or the Fire Commissioner, upon recommendation of the Board of Building Standards or the Board of Safety and Fire Prevention, respectively. They result from specific cases brought before the boards that concluded with the board determining that the circumstances of the case are likely to be repeated. The boards also determined that in each such future instance, the merits of the initial case dictated that the same variance with the same provisions should be granted from the specific requirements of one or more of the subcodes of the Philadelphia Building Construction and Occupancy Code.
The purpose of Variances of General Application is to preclude the necessity of applicants who satisfy the conditions of the variance from having to individually apply for a variance. Once issued, Variances of General Application are applied in the same manner as the code and have equal applicability. In some cases, the provisions lead to future amendments to the code. |
