Reading Your Meter
Regular readings and proper maintenance of your water meter ensures accurate billing.
What is automatic meter reading?
Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) uses radio waves and allows a City representative to read your meter without entering your home. Initially, only residential and small commercial customers' water meters will be installed. With AMR, the City representative will read your meter once a month. It is your responsibility to allow the City representative into your home to install your new meter.
What are other ways to read my meter?
Until AMR is fully installed, your meter can be read using one of the following methods:
- In Person - The City representative comes to your home to read your meter.
- Phone-In - If the City representative cannot enter your home to read the meter, a meter reading card will be left at your door. You must read your meter and call (215) 686-2100 with your meter reading within 48 hours of the City representative's visit.
- Estimate - If your meter is not read by you or a City representative, you will receive an estimated billing based on the amount of water used in the past and the estimated size of your meter.
What if my water meter breaks?
If your water meter breaks, call (215) 685-6300 to get your water meter repaired or replaced.
What if you do not have a water meter?
If you do not have a water meter, call (215) 685-6300 to get a water meter installed in your property. Until your new meter is installed, the Bureau will send you an estimated bill based on the amount of water used in the past and the estimated size of your meter.
