PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Department of Public Health today announced 630 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 novel coronavirus in Philadelphia. That brings the number of confirmed cases to 99,963. In addition, the Department of Public Health also announced 39 new probable cases from rapid antigen tests. 

The Department of Public Health confirmed 29 additional fatalities in Philadelphia. This brings the number of residents who have succumbed to the virus in Philadelphia to 2,712. Of the 2,712 total deaths, 1,061 (39%) were long-term care facility residents.

Updated Business Guidance: A number of business and activity restrictions will be lifted beginning tomorrow, Saturday, January 16. The Department of Public Health has posted updated guidance for these activities on the City’s COVID-19 website

  • Indoor dining will be allowed with 25 percent of the stated fire code occupancy for seated dining. If the lawful occupancy is unknown, then the density must not exceed one person per 60 square feet in the dining area including staff.
  • Theaters and performance spaces will be allowed with a cap on the total number of attendees, including staff, of 10 percent maximum occupancy. If the maximum occupancy is unknown, allow 10 persons per 1,000 square feet. Everyone in attendance must be masked, and no food or drink is allowed.
  • Colleges will be allowed to resume in-person classes.

COVID-19 Press Release: The City will not issue its weekday COVID-19 press release on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 18. Case counts from the weekend and Monday will be included in the next release on Tuesday, January 19.

City Services Impacted on Martin Luther King Jr. Day: All City of Philadelphia offices will be closed and City services curtailed Monday, January 18, in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Departments of Licenses and Inspections, Revenue, and Water will not be accepting appointments or providing in-person services to the public on the Concourse Level of the Municipal Services Building. The City’s eCLIPSE system for online permitting and licensing and online file and payment website at www.phila.gov/pay remain available 24/7; eCLIPSE will be out of service from 5 p.m. on Monday through 9 a.m. on Tuesday for updates.

Trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday. Residents with collections on Monday should set out their trash and recycling for collection on Tuesday, January 19.

The Philly 311 call center will be closed, however, residents can still submit service requests online anytime through the app, web portal, and email. The Water Department Call Center will also be closed, however residents can still call to report water emergencies at (215) 685-6300.

All City District Health Centers are closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as are the North and Northeast Municipal Service Centers; the Marriage License Bureau; all Philadelphia Parks & Recreation facilities; the Free Library of Philadelphia and all of its branches. Field offices of the Department of Licenses and Inspectors remain closed to non-employees.

The executive offices of the Philadelphia Parking Authority, as well as its Violations branch, at 9th and Filbert Streets will be closed. The Philadelphia Parking Authority also will not be enforcing meter parking on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

All Philadelphia Department of Prisons facilities remain closed to civilian visitors due to COVID-19 precautions.

City offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
