Mission


The Office of the City Representative for Ceremonial & Special Events and Public Relations is responsible for developing and promoting events to attract visitors, and new residents to the City of Philadelphia as well as improving the quality of life for people currently residing in the city and region.

The Office works in coordination and supports the Mayor’s Office of Communications. In addition, the Office provides photographic services for official events and the mayor.

Special annual programs created and/or administered by the Office of the City Representative include citywide events, as well as official ceremonial events such as swearing-in and mayoral inaugural ceremonies. The Office also administers special projects and events, as assigned by the Mayor or requested by other City departments and agencies.

The City Representative officially represents the City, and the Mayor at public, civic, ceremonial and special events. The Office is responsible for official City gifts for distribution to dignitaries and special honorees. The Office produces City proclamations, tributes, citations and special recognition letters at the request of the Mayor. 

The Office of the City Representative for Ceremonial and Special Events coordinates City Services for events produced by the City and outside organizations. The Deputy City Representative oversees a Special Events Review Committee and Task Force to facilitate the delivery of services from Fairmount Park; the Office of the Managing Director; the Police, Fire and EMS departments; the Department of Public Property; the Streets Department and other city agencies specific to an event.

The Office of the City Representative for Ceremonial and Special Events oversees the Fund for Philadelphia, Inc., a non-profit organization authorized to receive contributions from corporations, foundations, individuals, public agencies and others in support of projects promoting the City of Philadelphia. The Fund links public sector initiatives to private-sector support. The services include receipt and management services for contributions; processing payments; assisting with legal and insurance matters; processing filings and registrations, and contracting with vendors and service providers.
