DUTIES

This is full performance level electrical systems work in the alteration, installation, maintenance and repair of the City's electrical infrastructure, wire and cable/lines. An employee in this class performs preventive maintenance of the systems and repairs a wide variety of the system components and equipment. Work includes inspecting, testing, diagnosing and installing system components and equipment. This class is differentiated from the lower level class in the series by the responsibility for independently performing the full scope of electrical troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing work. Work is performed under the supervision of a technical supervisor and involves physical effort and exposure to disagreeable environmental conditions.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. EDUCATION:
    Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth school grade;

    AND

  2. EXPERIENCE:
    Four years of experience installing, repairing and maintaining electrical equipment powered by at least 440 volts;

    OR

  3. EDUCATION:
    Completion of post high school electrician trades program from an accredited technical institute, trade school or college, including possession of a diploma indicating completion of all program curriculum requirements;

    AND

  4. EXPERIENCE:
    Two years of experience installing, repairing and maintaining electrical equipment powered by at least 440 volts.


NOTES: Possession of a valid electrician’s license issued by the Department of Licenses & Inspections equates for the above education and experience requirements.

Unless specifically stated in the requirements on the job announcement, volunteer experience is NOT acceptable.

PROJECTED EXAMINATION SCHEDULE

AMENDMENT TO RESIDENCY
Successful candidates have up to 1 year to move to Philadelphia.

ELIGIBLE LISTS:

OPEN COMPETITIVE:
Only an open competitive eligible list will be established as a result of this examination. Permanent City employees who compete will receive no promotional preference in this examination.

CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT:
The examination for this class is announced on a continuous basis. The eligible list established as a result will be merged as candidates are tested. Candidates who pass the exam and are placed on the civil service list will be retained on the list for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years.
