Purpose
To provide state of the art diagnostic and treatment services to all of the citizens of Philadelphia who are known or suspected of having tuberculosis infection or disease.

Introduction
The Lawrence F. Flick Memorial Center is the clinical site for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health's Tuberculosis Control Program. The Center is operated in conjunction with the American Lung Association and is the only publicly funded TB clinic in Philadelphia. Opened in 1998 to aid in the City's efforts to eradicate tuberculosis, the Center also serves as a referral center for complicated TB cases from other districts in Pennsylvania. Directly Observed Therapy (DOT), medications, and clinical evaluations are offered at the Flick Center FREE OF CHARGE.

The Flick Center has come to be recognized for its medical and pharmacological evaluations of patients. The services have also been effective in evaluating and treating newly arrived immigrants.

Philadelphia's TB Control Program relies heavily on the services of the Flick Center. The staff includes a director, administrator, a nurse, a nurse coordinator, a Doctor of Pharmacy, several physicians, and a pediatrician. Located in Center City at 305 S. 13th Street (near the corner of 13th and Spruce), the Flick Center is conveniently accessible by mass transportation.

Services

DOT Program
Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., patients on DOT can come to the Flick Center to take their medications. Mass transit tokens and snacks are provided for scheduled patients. Special incentives, on a weekly basis, are also included for those that attend all scheduled visits. Arrangements can be made for home DOT on a limited basis.

Clinic
Clinical sessions with a physician are scheduled Tuesday through Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00. Clinics are also scheduled for the 2nd (Asian Clinic) and 4th Monday of each month. Culturally appropriate treatment and educational resources are available during Asian Clinic. Whether you are a suspected TB patient or are having complications with the medication, the doctor is available for medical evaluations. Other available services include tuberculin testing, sputum induction, HIV screening, and a medicine review and screening for side effects with a pharmacist.
