We all deserve clean air to breathe, and to be free from noise, smoke and other nuisances.  As the local air pollution control agency, Air Management Services monitors air quality and enforces city, state and federal air pollution standards.

What We Do

  • inspect, evaluate, and respond to concerns regarding odors, smoking stacks and other air quality problems
  • investigate noise and vibration concerns and enforce reductions when regulation limits are exceeded
  • monitor the outdoor air quality at various locations throughout Philadelphia
  • enforce local asbestos regulations, including requirements for renovation and demolition, asbestos project workplace standards, and state certification requirements for asbestos workers and supervisors
  • issue permits and licenses to businesses for new or modified equipment that may affect air pollution
  • provide outreach, education, and technical assistance to schools, health care facilities, environmental groups and community organizations
  • plan and implement innovative programs to improve air quality, such as the Philadelphia Diesel Difference
