Helping Smokers Quit

We provide help to smokers who want to quit while we work to increase the number of people who quit for good.

Philadelphia has the highest adult smoking rate of the 10 largest US cities, accounting for nearly 300,000 smokers citywide. In fact, nearly three in ten adult Philadelphians use tobacco products. We are working to make sure that smokers who want to quit have the resources they need to quit for good.

Our Action Plan

  • Promoting the PA Free Quitline telephone counseling program: 1-800-QUIT NOW (1-800-784-8669).
  • Distributing 10,000 free one-month courses of nicotine replacement therapy to Philadelphia smokers via the Quitline.
  • Helping large employers in Philadelphia go smoke-free and offer resources to help their employees quit smoking.
  • Increasing the number of Medicaid recipients who use insurance benefits for cessation medications.
  • Launching a 16-month media campaign to encourage smokers to quit with help.
  • Supporting community-based quit smoking programs that provide group counseling and one-on-one support.
