Widening the Circle of our Concern: Public Perceptions of the School District of Philadelphia’s Response to Intergroup Conflicts
In January 2010, in response to intergroup violence at South Philadelphia High School, the PCHR conducted a yearlong series of public hearings to hear first-hand from parents, teachers, students, principals, and other community members about their experiences with intergroup conflicts in Philadelphia's public schools. The product of these hearings, “Widening The Circle of Our Concern: Public Perceptions of the School District of Philadelphia’s Responses to Intergroup Conflicts,” became the source for specific reform recommendations for the School District of Philadelphia.
Since the report was released on March 1, 2011, we have worked with the School District and the community to see that our recommendations are implemented to encourage the District to continue to improve the way it resolves, tracks, and prevents intergroup conflicts.
