‘HERstory’ program and film presentation celebrates the late Philadelphian Marian Anderson’s pioneering life and legacy

WHAT:        HERstory: Uplifting Every Voice:  Join a celebration of young women through the legacy of Marian Anderson within Art, Film and Music featuring a free screening of Once in a Hundred Years: The Life and  Legacy of Marian Anderson documentary and special guest Mo’ne Davis who will receive the City of Philadelphia Liberty Bell presented by City Representative Sheila Hess.

DETAILS:  Once in a Hundred Years: The Life and Legacy of Marian Anderson tells the inspiring story of the musical icon from South Philadelphia whose performance at the Lincoln Memorial in 1939 helped set the stage for the civil rights era. Anderson’s voice broke through barriers closed to black Americans in the 1930s. The film is produced by Bill Nicoletti. This event is produced by the Office of the City Representative and in partnership with Mayor’s Office of Public EngagementOffice of Engagement for WomenOffice of Youth Engagement, and the Philadelphia Film Society.
