The Research and Planning Unit is a central support agency for the Fire Department. This Unit is comprised of an Administrative Captain for TSU and two Lieutenants, one of whom assumes the role of Water Operations Officer.
The primary functions of Research and Planning are the following:
- Maintaining contact with various agencies of the municipal, regional, state, and federal governments, and industry concerning all aspects of the Fire Department
- Responding to incoming correspondence and questionnaires, conducting surveys both on a national and international level, and performing related duties as directed by the Fire Commissioner
- Coordinating the development, scheduled revision, and distribution of the Fire Department’s Directive and Operational Procedure System – a system of standard procedures and guidelines that assures an effective management process
- Maintain an archive for the preservation of past directives, operational procedures, general memos, and staff notes
