PHILADELPHIA – The Mayor’s Office of Education will host an Early Childhood Education Career and Opportunities Fair on Thursday, May 18th from 4:30 – 7 pm. Individuals are encouraged to attend to receive resources from more than 30 organizations showcasing job openings, post-secondary programs, scholarships, and much more. The event will be held at Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), 1500 Market Street.
The event is part of a greater effort to bolster the early childhood education workforce, which was recently added to the local High Priority Occupations List by Philadelphia Works, Inc. Because of PHLpreK, the City’s new quality pre-K initiative funded by the Philadelphia Beverage Tax, more than 250 teaching and support staff positions have been created since PHLpreK launched in January.
“The City’s investment in PHLpreK doesn’t just benefit the children who are participating in quality pre-K at 88 programs across the city. It is also strengthening local businesses and creating hundreds of jobs in the ECE sector,” said Mayor Kenney. “We need to ensure that we have the qualified workforce to meet the demands of expanding quality pre-K. Pre-K teachers make a lifelong impact on their students, and this event will help them in attaining their credentials and continuing the education they need to advance their careers.”

About PHLpreK:
With the passage of the Philadelphia Beverage Tax in June 2016, Philadelphia City Council approved Mayor Kenney’s five-year plan to create 6,500 locally-funded, quality pre-K seats in Philadelphia. To achieve this, we are partnering with dozens of early childhood education providers, including the School District of Philadelphia. Learn more at PHLpreK.org
