On Tuesday, January 6th 2016 Mayor Jim Kenney swore in the new Philadelphia Police Commissioner, Richard Ross at Central High School, Ross’ alma mater.

Mayor Kenny spoke very highly of Commissioner Ross and the “quiet confidence” he instills in those who work with him.

Commissioner Richard Ross thanked his family, friends, colleagues and spoke about his experience and growth through the Philadelphia public school system. Ross shared a childhood story of a burglary at his home when he was about 10 years old that was stopped, partially thanks to the action of attentive neighbors. As Commissioner Ross said, if police and the communities they serve come together for a common purpose, we will be safe and more effective.

Congratulations Commissioner Ross! The city of Philadelphia is glad to have you on board!
