Entry-level attorney positions

Every year, the Law Department hires a fall class of 10–20 entry-level attorneys assigned across all units. If you are planning to graduate this year or if you have already graduated, we encourage you to apply.

Applying for an entry-level attorney position

Email lawdepartmentrecruiting@phila.gov with the subject line “Entry Level Attorney [LASTNAME].” Be sure to attach your:

  • Resume
  • Cover letter
  • Law school transcript
  • Writing sample
  • Three professional references, including name and phone number

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.


Internships

With four practice groups and numerous units with discrete focus areas, the Law Department offers its interns unrivaled hands-on experience in civil practice.

Depending on their assignment, interns may develop their skills in:

  • Contract drafting.
  • Presenting at hearings before a judge.
  • Conducting depositions.
  • Writing and research.

Assignments vary depending on the intern’s unit placement and the discretion of the supervising attorney.

We currently offer unpaid internship opportunities during the following months, with flexible start and end dates:

  • Summer: June – August
  • Fall: September – December
  • Spring: January – April/May
