PHILADELPHIA, PA – After a year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Annual Philly Spring Clean returns with new COVID protocols in place. The Philadelphia Streets Department is excited to announce this year’s citywide cleaning event will be held Saturday, April 10, at locations throughout Philadelphia.
The Streets Department estimates 750 different cleanup projects will take place across the city during the Philly Spring Cleanup. The Department’s signature event is billed as the City’s largest cleanup event taking place citywide in a single day. Residents can register a project — including park and neighborhood cleanups — or register as a volunteer for an existing project at phillyspringcleanup.com
“The Philly Spring Cleanup is an opportunity to show the people of Philadelphia what we can accomplish when we work together towards a shared goal,” said Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. Our sidewalks, parks and vacant lots have experienced higher rates of litter and dumping in the year since the pandemic reached Philadelphia, and the results are alarming. By reengaging city residents in a COVID-conscious citywide cleaning effort, we hope to create a cleaner and more beautiful City,” said Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams.
Due to the pandemic and stay-at-home orders, the 2020 Philly Spring Cleanup was cancelled. With new COVID protocols in place, the Streets Department is poised to continue the tradition of kicking off the City’s cleaning season with the help of volunteers in every area of the city. Project sites will be capped at 20 volunteers max and must have a designated and trained COVID Prevention Coordinator. Participants must maintain proper six-feet social distancing from non-household members at all times. Face masks are a requirement for the outdoor cleaning events.

Over the course of a decade, more than 11 million pounds of trash and 600,000 pounds of recycling have been captured and removed from city neighborhoods during Philly Spring Cleanup events. The citywide effort has attracted more than 150,000 volunteers since 2008.
