PHILADELPHIA — The Millennial Advisory Committee (MAC) released today its 2017-2020 Progress Report, submitting to City Council and Mayor Kenney an official record of activities and future plans.

The Philadelphia Millennial Advisory Committee is proud to share the progress we’ve made since our founding in 2017 as well as our framework for the future, said Julian Domanico, MAC Chair. “Whether advocating for criminal justice reform or the rights of our immigrant neighbors, a brighter financial future for our generation, or compassionate, people-centered policies to build equitable neighborhoods, MAC remains uniquely positioned to amplify the Philadelphia millennial perspective in the service of positive change.

2017-2020 Millennial Advisory Committee Highlights:

  • Annual Millennial Forums
  • Make 2020 Count Recognizing that 2020 would bring a once-in-a-decade census and a major presidential election, MAC declared that 2020 would be the most civically engaged twelve months ever for the millennial generation in Philadelphia. They did this by:
    • Supporting the work of Philly Counts by increasing Millennial engagement around the 2020 Census
    • Aiding in get-out-the-vote efforts by conducting outreach and sharing information with fellow millennials
  • 2020 Town Hall on Police Reform – In the wake of the horrific murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and the many other unarmed black and brown people  at the hands of the police – and the ensuing protests for racial justice – MAC brought together nearly 5,000 millennials from across Philadelphia to take part in a virtual town hall focused on police reform in our city and across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

“I am so incredibly honored to be able to work with and support the work of my peers in the Millennial Advisory Committee,” said Jeanette Bavwidinsi, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Youth Engagement. “They remind me every day that the largest generation since the Baby Boomers is not only great in number, but in commitment to seeing Philadelphia be a better city for all of its residents. I remain in awe of their many abilities and willingness to serve. The MAC will continue to be a force for good in our city for years to come.”

Looking to the next 12 months, the Millennial Advisory Committee is excited to continue the tremendous momentum that they have built with the engagement and support of millennials across Philadelphia and their key partners. MAC remains committed to serving as a connector and convener of millennials as well as an advocate for their generation in the city.

“At the heart of our work is the truth that the millennial experience is an important barometer for the health of our communities. Millennials have begun to settle down, build roots, and juggle the needs of today with the wants of tomorrow,” remarks Domanico. “MAC recognizes that partnership and collaboration are necessary to fulfill our mission to build a city where our generation, and therefore all of us, are better equipped to thrive. MAC hopes that organizations and millennials from across Philadelphia will join us in the hard work ahead as our city continues to confront multiple crises at once.”
