PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Department of Public Health today announced 1,816 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 novel coronavirus in Philadelphia. That brings the number of confirmed cases to 71,331. In addition, the Department of Public Health also announced 22 new probable cases from rapid antigen tests.
The Department of Public Health confirmed 28 additional fatalities in Philadelphia. This brings the number of residents who have succumbed to the virus in Philadelphia to 2,033. Of the 2,033 total deaths, 941 (46%) were long-term care facility residents.
“Sadly, we reached another tragic milestone this week in our fight against COVID-19 as we’ve lost over 2,000 Philadelphians to this pandemic,” said Mayor Jim Kenney. “Each soul lost is another stark reminder that we must take every precaution seriously to flatten the curve. We are not yet out of the woods, and we must work together by masking up, staying home, and maintaining social distance to prevent future loss of life.”
The Department of Public Health reports 850 patients with COVID-19 are currently being treated in Philadelphia hospitals, with a total of 105 on ventilators.
