It’s “All You Can Chop!” at the Fairmount Park Organic Recycling Center.

Looking to stay warm by your fireplace or fire pit this winter? Then bring-your-own ax to Parks & Rec’s Organic Recycling Center in West Fairmount Park. There you’ll find a huge supply of trees to chop—in addition to compost, woodchips, and mulch.

You must chop your own firewood. Be sure to bring a chain saw, splitter, axe, or a hatchet to chop off as big a load as you need. There is a flat rate $15 convenience fee.

The wood includes storm debris and downed trees brought in by Parks & Rec’s tree crews.

To pick up firewood, Philadelphia residents must:

  1. Bring their own tools. A chain saw and splitter are recommended for cutting logs into firewood.
  2. Go to the public section of the center to pick up materials.
  3. Provide a driver’s license or photo ID to show proof of residency.
  4. Pay the flat rate $15 convenience fee.
  5. Complete a daily log-in sheet and waiver form.
  6. Select and load materials.
To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, all visitors to the Recycling Center must wear masks. Visitors without masks will be denied service.
