The Department of Public Health confirmed one additional fatality in Philadelphia. This brings the number of residents who have succumbed to the virus in Philadelphia to 1,666. Heat Health Emergency Extended through Wednesday: In response to continued high forecast maximum heat index values and high overnight low temperatures, Health Commissioner Thomas Farley has extended the current Heat Health Emergency through Wednesday, July 22 at 8 p.m. The most up-to-date information on the City’s response to the heat can be found in this blog post explaining what happens during a Heat Health Emergency.

Trash and Recycling Delays: The Streets Department has made significant progress in reducing its trash and recycling collection backlog. However, delays persist due to increased tonnage across the city and staffing shortages due to COVID-19. Despite this progress, collections are still running one to two days behind. Residents are asked to set their materials out at least one day later than their regular scheduled day, however, materials may be picked up one to two days late as crews face increased rubbish at the curb due to more residents staying at home.

The Streets Department has expanded the operating hours of the Sanitation Convenience Centers to seven days a week to allow residents to bring their trash and recycling material anytime during the week. Residents should refrain from placing additional 311 requests for missed trash or recycling collection unless their materials have not been picked up at least four days behind regular schedule.
