On Tuesday, October 29, 2019 the Mayor’s Commission on People with Disabilities, in collaboration with Public Health Management Corporation, is hosting a community engagement forum to hear the concerns of residents with disabilities.

What is the Mayor’s Commission on People with Disabilities?

The Mayor’s Commission on People with Disabilities serves as a sounding board for the administration regarding issues that impact Philadelphians with disabilities. The group advocates for policies, programs, and systemic changes that maximize independence and community integration. It also provides resources and referrals to local organizations that support residents with disabilities. In addition to its advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities, the Commission also educates the larger Philadelphia community on the Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Housing Act, and other laws that protect the civil rights of people with disabilities.

Why should I attend the community engagement forum?

Although 16 percent of Philadelphia residents have a disability, too often their issues are not given the priority they deserve. Collaboration between residents and City government can help make Philadelphia a city where people of all abilities can live, work, and thrive.

This event is designed to allow Philadelphians with disabilities a much-needed opportunity to have their voices heard on matters such as housing, employment, education, and transportation. Attendees can also offer their suggestions on how the City can make system-wide changes to improve these services.
