You can apply for jobs and internships with the City of Philadelphia using an online job board.
There are two types of City jobs: civil service and non-civil service. Civil service positions require a competitive exam. Non-civil service positions do not.
If hired, you must move to Philadelphia within six months after your appointment date, except where residency waivers apply.
You must submit your application online. If you don’t have a computer, you can use computers at your local Philadelphia Free Library branch or at:
Municipal Services Building
1401 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Concourse Level
Philadelphia, PA 19102
Use the City of Philadelphia’s job board to explore current openings and find work with the City of Philadelphia.
Civil service requirements
You must meet the minimum requirements for a job to take a civil service exam. In some cases, the Office of Human Resources (OHR) may accept substitutions for the required education and experience.
OHR will review your application and notify you if you are approved to take the exam.
If you pass the exam, you’ll be placed on the eligible list for hire. You’ll remain on the eligible list for two years.
On this list, applicants are ranked by their exam score. Veterans get points added to their exam score and receive preference in hiring.
If you are selected to interview, you must prove:
- Your identity.
- Your right to work in the United States.
- Your ability to meet the requirements in the exam announcement, such as having a trade license.
