Department of Prisons Suspends In-Person Visits: Due to the rising citywide COVID-19 case counts and positivity rate reported by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health this week, the Philadelphia Department of Prisons (PDP) will suspend in-person civilian visits with family and friends. This decision is part of the Department’s ongoing mitigation efforts to reduce the risk of COVID-19 introduction and transmission, and to keep the workforce and incarcerated population safe.

“The safety of our PDP workforce and the incarcerated people under our supervision is our primary concern as the COVID-19 infection rate rises across the City,” said Commissioner Blanche Carney. “We will continue every mitigation effort that has been in place since the start of the global pandemic to ensure that they remain protected and as safe as possible. Currently, with the virus spiking, these measures are a necessity and in the best interests of the PDP workforce, the incarcerated people and their families and friends.”

The Department of Prisons will continue to work with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health to monitor the community infection rate.
