PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Department of Public Health today announced 882 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 novel coronavirus in Philadelphia. That brings the number of confirmed cases to 82,590. In addition, the Department of Public Health also announced 66 new probable cases from rapid antigen tests.
The Department of Public Health confirmed 56 additional fatalities in Philadelphia. This brings the number of residents who have succumbed to the virus in Philadelphia to 2,197. Of the 2,197 total deaths, 969 (44%) were long-term care facility residents. The large number of newly reported fatalities represents previously unidentified cases that were added as a result of data matching from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The Department of Public Health reports 945 patients with COVID-19 are currently being treated in Philadelphia hospitals, with a total of 121 on ventilators.
Access Centers: The City’s Access Centers closed at 1 p.m. today and will be closed for the full day on Thursday, December 17. The Access Centers anticipate returning to normal schedule on Friday, December 18.
Food Site Update: Several food sites will be closed on Thursday, December 17 due to the forecasted winter storm. Residents can confirm food site closures at phila.gov/food or by calling 311. Please note that last minute closures may occur. Confirmed closures as of Wednesday December 16 include:
