Get Involved and Give Back in Philadelphia: As many people return to work, various organizations find themselves losing the volunteers who have supported services over the past few months. The need is still very high, especially at food access programs such as MANNA and the Share Food Program. The Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service is working to connect residents to volunteer opportunities with these critical organizations. To sign up for volunteer opportunities across the city, please visit the Mayor’s Volunteer Corps Portal at serve.volunteermatch.org.
Approved Weekend Street Closures for Outdoor Dining (September 17-20): In June, the City launched four new options for restaurants to operate outdoor dining in order to earn much needed revenue. These new options aim to support businesses during the city’s green phase of reopening from the COVID-19 pandemic. To see this weekend’s approved street closures, view this blog. Vehicular traffic should avoid these streets.
Free and Affordable Childcare Options: There are thousands of childcare openings for school-age children in Philadelphia, at private centers throughout the city. In light of current school closures, the state’s Child Care Works subsidy program will now help eligible families pay for full-day childcare during the week for school-age children. With the subsidy, families pay a copay for child care and the state program will cover the rest.
To learn more about the childcare subsidy and other free or affordable options including PHLpreK and Access Centers, visit the Office of Children and Families’ latest blog post about free and affordable childcare solutions.
