Office of Community Justice & Outreach

 

Mission

    To communicate the goals, objectives, and accomplishments of the Philadelphia Prison System and to receive input and suggestions concerning prison operations and programs on a strategic, scheduled basis from community representatives, government agencies, officials, and the public.

    To serve as the central office of the Philadelphia Prison System in responding to and/or referring complaints and inquiries from the public regarding prison operations, programs, and services.

    To involve all Philadelphia Prison System staff in developing programs and partnerships with community groups similar to the Police Athletic League and Police Explorers, that will help deter criminal behavior.

    Coordinate with the Public Information Office to devise and implement a proactive media strategy to promote the goals and objectives of the PPS.

    Located on the grounds of Curran - Fromhold correctional facility, CJO is open 8:00 am to 4:00 pm - Monday - Friday and accepts Feedback complaints and suggestions concerning prison operations while disseminating information about prisons operations and services.

This location also offers:

The Office of Community Justice and Outreach (CJO), offers students hands on learning opportunities. Internships are available to students who are enrolled in a college or university at the undergraduate and graduate levels. CJO also works with City of Philadelphia Mayor's Internship Program and High School Internship Program in exposing students to the world of work to help them prepare for the future. Prospective interns must complete an application packet. Subsequent to a review of this information, the applicant may be contacted by the Internship Coordinator and, if selected, will participate in an orientation and undergo a criminal record. Internship offers are made based on the candidate’s skills, interests and abilities, and the needs of the Philadelphia Prison System.
