A Philadelphia native, Michael Resnick graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1988.
Mr. Resnick earned his law degree from Widener University School of Law in 1991. While attending law school, Mr. Resnick served as a law clerk to the Ocean County Prosecutor and was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society. Prior to joining the Philadelphia Prison System, Mr. Resnick was a Divisional Deputy City Solicitor in the Civil Rights Unit of the City Solicitor's Office. There he supervised several litigation attorneys as well as the unit's support staff while maintaining an active Federal Civil Rights litigation caseload. Mr. Resnick is licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey and is a member of the bar of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Additionally, Mr. Resnick is a fellow of the Temple University School of Law Academy of Advocacy and a member of the American Correctional Association.
Mr. Resnick currently serves as Chief of Staff & Director of Legal Affairs, in this capacity, he is responsible for minimizing costly litigation, ensuring that the PPS operates in adherence to the U. S. Constitution and other legal requirements, advising the Commissioner and executive staff on legal matters, serving as liaison with the Law Department, coordinating PPS activities with respect to pre-suit claims and active litigation, training staff on legal issues in corrections.
Additionally, Mr. Resnick oversees the office of Legal Affairs, Office of Professional Compliance, the Policy and Audit Division, the Training Academy, the Office of Community Justice and Outreach, C.O.R.E.S.T.A.R., Contract Administration, Public Information Office, Special Investigations Unit and the Honor Guard. Mr. Resnick also participates in the Mayor's Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee.
