EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 3-94
HOSPITALITY CABINET


WHEREAS, the development and promotion of a quality hospitality/ tourism product is a critical priority for the future economic development of the City of Philadelphia;

WHEREAS, there are currently a variety of City departments and agencies, as well as other governmental and quasi-governmental agencies and authorities, involved in the task of developing and promoting a quality hospitality/tourism product;

WHEREAS, the departments and agencies currently involved in the development and promotion of a quality hospitality/tourism product include the City Commerce Department, Penns Landing Corporation, the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority, and Historic Philadelphia, Inc.;

WHEREAS, notwithstanding the high quality of the current tourism/hospitality product produced by the plethora of departments and agencies involved in this activity, there is a need for better coordination among those departments and agencies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Edward G. Rendell, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia, in accordance with Section 3-100 of the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter, do hereby order as follows:

SECTION 1. Hospitality Cabinet

A. There is hereby established a Hospitality Cabinet composed of the following individuals:

Chief of Staff to the Mayor
City Representative
First Deputy City Representative for Special Events
First Deputy City Representative for Arts and Culture
President of the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation
Executive Director of Historic Philadelphia, Inc.
Executive Director of Avenue of the Arts, Inc.
President of Penns Landing Corporation
Director of Economic Development of Penns Landing Corporation
President of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau
Vice President for Tourism of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau
Vice President for Marketing of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau
Vice President for Public Relations of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau
Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority
General Manager of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority
Director of Marketing of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority
City Council President or his/her designee
President of the Philadelphia Hotel Association
Executive Director of the Multi-Cultural Affairs Congress
Five Mayoral appointments

B. Unless otherwise designated by the Mayor, the Chief of Staff to the Mayor will chair the Hospitality Cabinet. The Chief of Staff is hereby authorized to speak on behalf of the Mayor on all matters before the Hospitality Cabinet and to obtain such administrative support from other City departments for the Cabinet's operations as he/she may require.

SECTION 2. Charge of the Hospitality Cabinet

The Hospitality Cabinet will undertake, at a minimum, the following responsibilities:

A. Undertake a comprehensive review of the current hospitality/tourism efforts of all of the departments and agencies involved in the hospitality/tourism industry in Philadelphia.

B. Undertake a comprehensive review of the financial resources available for the development and promotion of a quality hospitality/tourism product for the City of Philadelphia.

C. Recommend to the Mayor a long-term structure for the coordination of efforts by the City of Philadelphia to develop and promote a quality hospitality/tourism product.

D. Such other duties as may be assigned to it from time to time.

SECTION 3. Effective Date

This Order shall become effective immediately.
