Agency History
This court was established by an Act of June 16, 1836, under which the Governor was empowered to appoint one Recorder with jurisdiction in the Districts of the Northern Liberties, Spring Garden and Kensington who, together with the Mayor and aldermen of the Northern Liberties and the aldermen of Spring Garden and Kensington, was empowered to hold a court of record for those districts with full criminal and oyer and terminer jurisdiction within them, similar to the City's Mayor's Court.
