  • Credential Based Bonus - Employees who secure and maintain licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) issued by the Pennsylvania state board of Accountancy are eligible for a one-time lump sum salary differential of $3,000 during the year that the employee first receives the CPA license, and an annual lump sum salary differential of $1,000 for each subsequent year that the employee maintains the CPA license.*

U.S. VETERAN’S PREFERENCE NOTE:
Ten points for veteran’s preference will be added to the scores of eligible veterans who apply for open competitive tests and pass the examination (for concurrent examinations, this applies only to applicants who are not currently employed by the City in a civil service position). DUTIES

  This is beginning level auditing work developing, through in-service courses and on-the-job training, the knowledges, skills, and abilities required to perform auditing tasks. An employee in this class assists in the examination of fiscal and related records, reviews operational procedures, and assists in the performance of audits for compliance with grant requirements of municipal departments and other agencies which receive City appropriations or Federal and State grants and on organizations doing business with the City. Through experience gained by exposure to various phases of financial, operational, and compliance audits, the employee is given a progressively expanding range and complexity of assignments. Contact with departmental representatives is a significant aspect of the work. Work is performed under the supervision of a technical superior.

REQUIREMENT

  1. EDUCATION:
    Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university, with major course work in accounting or certification as a Certified Public Accountant by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

NOTES:
College students may apply for and take the examination for this class as much as nine months prior to the date of receipt of the bachelor’s degree. However, any candidate doing so will not be eligible for appointment until (s)he has presented evidence of successful completion of the undergraduate coursework.

Candidates who have already graduated with a bachelor’s degree must submit a copy of their official college transcript with their application. If your degree was conferred outside of the United States, please submit a credit evaluation from an accredited Evaluation Agency.

RESIDENCY WAIVER NOTE:
The Civil Service Commission has waived the usual requirement that candidates must be residents of the City of Philadelphia for one year prior to date of appointment. Establishment of residency will be required of each non-resident hired not later than six (6) months after completion of the probationary period.

This examination will be given as applicants are recruited for vacant positions. Approved applicants will be contacted to schedule their examination.

OPEN COMPETITIVE
Only an open competitive eligible list will be established as a result of this examination. Permanent City employees who compete will receive no promotional preference in this examination.

PERIODIC CONTINUOUS
This examination may be announced on a periodic basis. Applications that are subsequently received will be tested as they become eligible. The scores of candidates that pass will be merged onto the original eligible list.
