CONTINUOUS SELECTION:
Interested candidates may apply in person during business hours, 8:30 AM to 5 PM except Saturdays and Sundays or by mail until further notice. Examinations will be rated in chronological order, and successful candidates will be placed on a consolidated list in the order of their final rating. They will be certified to position vacancies in the order of their standing on the eligible list at the time of certification.


DUTIES:

This is youth custody and counseling work, at the intermediate level, monitoring and supervising the activities of a group of involuntarily detained youth at the city's juvenile detention facility.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status in the Department of Human Services and a Performance Rating of Satisfactory or higher.

    and

  2. Completion of at least 60 credit hours of study at an accredited college or university which has included at least twelve semester hours in sociology, criminal justice, secondary education, or in a related field.

    and

  3. Six months of experience, as a Youth Detention Counselor Trainee, developing experience and knowledge in the principles, practices, procedures, and applications of juvenile detention and counseling methods and technique.

Will be related to the duties of the position and will consist of the following:

Only a departmental promotional eligible list for the Department of Human Services will be established as a result of this examination.
