About Belmont Mansion
If you've never been to Belmont Plateau, then you're missing one of the most spectacular views of Center City. In fact, the vista in front of Belmont Mansion has been one of the best city views since the 1700s. The original gardens of the house were among the finest in America during the colonial era. Several generations of the William Peters family inhabited Belmont and many famous Americans including Franklin, Washington, Jefferson and Madison enjoyed the view from this renowned property.
Belmont Mansion and its grounds have a complex history, but the house itself is probably most noted for its original decorative plaster ceiling - considered one of the oldest in America. The original portion of the complex was adaptively restored in 1998. The recently renovated main house is now once again open to the public.

About Laurel Hill Mansion
The tale of Laurel Hill is right out of your American history book. Come discover the surprising and true story of Rebecca Rawle, a wealthy widow, who built this small country house in the Georgian style around 1767. After Rawle's second marriage to Philadelphia mayor Samuel Shoemaker, she lost her house during the American Revolution after the state legislator seized it because she and her husband were British Loyalists. (Yes, there were many Philadelphians who opposed the Revolution and sided with the British!) Fear not, Rawle was successful in regaining her property. Find out what other famous American purchased the property after Rebecca. Hint: He was the father of American surgery.

About Lemon Hill Mansion
So, you thought only the White House had those amazing oval rooms with curved doors and windows? Not so. As John and Abigail Adams were moving into the White House, the prosperous merchant Henry Pratt was occupying this stately summer villa and spending time in Lemon Hill's two oval rooms.
Lemon Hill was built in 1800 atop "The Hills" formerly owned by merchant, entrepreneur and signer of the Declaration of Independence, Robert Morris. When Morris was sent to debtor's prison, his property was bought by Pratt whose fortune stemmed from trade in china, textiles, gun powder and real estate. Married three times with fifteen children this important Philadelphian also kept "one of the best gardens in Pennsylvania." Named after some of the first lemon trees in America, Lemon Hill also holds a special place in the hearts of all Fairmount Park fans as it was the first property purchased by the City for the formation of Fairmount Park.
