Eastwick: From Recovery to Resilience

Building a climate-resilient future in one of Philadelphia's most flood-prone neighborhoods.

About

Eastwick is nestled between the Delaware River, the Schuylkill River, and where the Darby and Cobbs creeks meet in Southwest Philadelphia. It's also a resilient environmental justice community.

Historically a marshland, the low-lying neighborhood is prone to flooding. This will only worsen with climate change. Eastwick is also near the airport, two major highways, a landfill, and a now-closed oil refinery. All add to environmental damage in the area.

Eastwick: From Recovery to Resilience is a place-based initiative by the Office of Sustainability to address flooding, environmental justice, and quality of life challenges in Eastwick. Our team works with community members and other partners to:

  • Connect Eastwick residents with information and resources.
  • Improve communication between residents and government agencies.
  • Align local, state, and federal resources to better meet the needs of residents.
  • Build capacity and shift power to residents to make decisions about their community.
  • Develop a plan guided by the experiences of flood survivors.

Together, we're making a plan to build climate resilience in Eastwick.
