Public meeting on November 4th
The Philadelphia City Planning Commission and partner agencies are planning the city’s future, long-term intercity bus station. An open house on Wednesday, November 4th is the next opportunity for Philadelphians to review their progress and provide feedback.
What is an intercity bus station?
An intercity bus station is a facility designed for long-distance buses to pick up and drop off passengers traveling between cities. The Philadelphia Parking Authority Transportation Center is currently being leased during this effort to create a government-owned, permanent location. It is located at 1001 Filbert Street, the site of the former Greyhound Bus Terminal.
The search for a permanent home for long-distance buses
Earlier this year, the City asked the public for feedback about three possible locations for a future long-term bus station.
These are:
- 30th and Arch Streets,
- 15th and Vine Streets, and
- 8th and Arch Streets.
The feedback was collected with an opinion survey and through a public meeting. Nearly 1,800 people completed the survey with an additional 61 providing feedback at a public meeting held on February 25, 2026.
Sharing back
Members of the public shared their preferences and experiences with intercity bus travel in their answers to the survey. Survey results and feedback received at the February meeting will be shared at the November 4th meeting. Key findings include:
- Travel to bus stops: Nearly 89% of respondents reported that they usually take transit, walk, or bike to arrive at intercity bus stops/stations in Philadelphia. Only 38% reported driving or taking a taxi or car share.
- Location priorities: Proximity to transit was, on average, the highest ranked priority by respondents, followed by proximity to shopping and dining.
- Preferred location: 30th & Arch received the most votes (65%) as the favorite among the three locations.
- Trip purpose: Vacation followed by visiting family were the top reasons for respondents’ most recent intercity bus trips.
- Station concerns: Proximity to other transportation options was, on average, the top concern, followed by public safety and security.
What will happen at the November 4th meeting?
In response to what they learned so far from the public, planners have updated potential station layouts for each possible site.
At the November 4th meeting, attendees will get to view these updated potential station layouts for each site and add their feedback. They will also get to talk to city planners about how each site might affect their experience as a bus rider. Planners are very interested in hearing about the potential issues at each site. This information will help identify issues to resolve in future planning and design phases for this effort.
