PHILADELPHIA — As FIFA World Cup 2026™ continues in Philadelphia, new data show visitors exploring neighborhoods, supporting local businesses, and experiencing more of the city.
Philadelphia’s June 19 World Cup match between Brazil and Haiti drew 68,324 fans to Philadelphia Stadium, while FIFA Fan Festival™ Philadelphia welcomed 141,982 visitors between June 15 and June 21, including 54,136 attendees on June 19 alone.
“When I visited Lemon Hill on Friday, I saw families, neighbors, and visitors from around the world sharing the same experience together,” said Mayor Cherelle L. Parker. “That’s exactly what we hoped this moment would feel like. By keeping FIFA Fan Festival free for all 39 days, we wanted to make sure every resident, and visitor had the opportunity to be part of this historic summer. The energy we’re seeing across Philadelphia is a reflection of our city at its best: welcoming, diverse, joyful, and proud.”
“One of our goals has been to ensure that people can experience this historic summer regardless of their budget,” said Chief Deputy Mayor Vanessa Garrett Harley. “From free events and public spaces to transportation options and neighborhood celebrations, we’re seeing residents and visitors alike take advantage of the best Philadelphia has to offer.”
Transportation providers, visitor-serving organizations, and businesses continue to report increased activity across the city. According to SEPTA, at least 26,000 passengers boarded the B Line at NRG Station following the June 19 World Cup match, up from 18,806 passengers following Philadelphia’s first match on June 14.
Philadelphia’s transportation network also saw increased use beyond traditional transit. Indego reports that June 19 was the highest ridership day in the bike-share system’s history, with more than 8,800 trips, while weekly ridership climbed 63 percent compared to the same period last year. Increased demand near Broad Street and Pattison Avenue before the Brazil-Haiti match required more than 40 additional bicycles to be staged beyond normal dock capacity to accommodate riders traveling to the Stadium Complex.
The momentum extended well beyond the Stadium Complex as visitors arrived, navigated, and explored destinations throughout Philadelphia. Amtrak reports that more than half a million passengers have traveled or are booked to travel through Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station between June 11 and July 11, approximately 15 percent more than during the same period last year. Amtrak officials said they are proud to be part of Philadelphia’s historic summer.
The Center City District reports that its Community Service Representatives recorded 7,115 hospitality engagements through June 17, up nearly 29 percent from the same period last year.
“Visitors from around the globe have brought incredible energy to Center City, and our team in teal has been ready to welcome them every step of the way,” said Center City District President and CEO Prema Katari Gupta. ” From helping visitors navigate the city to distributing nearly 30,000 maps, we’re helping people discover more of Philadelphia. We’re also piloting a modernized wayfinding system with 100,000 printed maps and 15 kiosks along Market East and the Parkway.”
Philadelphia’s hospitality and entertainment sectors are also seeing increased activity. Stateside Live!, which recently unveiled a major expansion in the Sports Complex, reports welcoming more than 38,000 guests on June 19 as fans gathered throughout the day around World Cup activities.
At Midnight & The Wicked, located at 1500 Sansom Street in Center City, owner Artem Ustayev also reported record business during the tournament. “All of the attention on Philadelphia from FIFA has brought record turnout during what is usually a slower season for us,” said Ustayev. “We’re seeing sales increase 80 to 100 percent compared to last year, and Brazil’s win gave us the busiest night in our history. We’ve welcomed both local customers and visitors from around the world, and our staff has been ready for the crowds thanks in part to the City’s Liberty Bell Safe Training program.”
City departments continue supporting tournament operations while maintaining the services residents rely on every day. According to the Streets Department and Sanitation Commissioner Crystal Jacobs Shipman, 75 sanitation employees are supporting the FIFA Fan Festival™ footprint, Fan March routes, Center City, and surrounding neighborhoods each day, with additional overnight crews assigned to high-traffic areas. The enhanced deployment has enabled the City to support World Cup activities while maintaining regular trash collection and sanitation services citywide without interruption.
Since launching on Juneteenth, Wawa Welcome America has been presenting its largest entertainment lineup ever, with 16 days of free concerts, performances, festivals, and celebrations across Philadelphia. Together with the free FIFA Fan Festival™, these events reflect Philadelphia’s commitment to making this historic summer accessible to all. Residents and visitors can also look forward to the July 4th Concert and Fireworks on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway as Philadelphia celebrates the values that unite us as One America, a united nation.
Philadelphia’s World Cup hosting schedule continues with matches on June 22, June 25, June 27, and a Round of 16 match on July 4.
