The City of Philadelphia recently celebrated more than 160 participants who completed workforce development programs through the City College for Municipal Employment (CCME). Hosted at the Community College of Philadelphia, the Completion Ceremony recognized residents and City employees who have invested in their futures through education, training, and professional development.
Established by Mayor Cherelle L. Parker in October 2024, CCME was created to remove barriers to employment and connect Philadelphians to free workforce training opportunities. Since its launch, the program has grown significantly, expanding beyond municipal workforce development to support pathways into healthcare, advanced manufacturing, technology, life sciences, and other growing industries.
The ceremony honored participants from several CCME initiatives, including Bridges to Employment, Upskilling programs for current City employees, CCME Civic Entrepreneurs, and High School Power Skills. Together, these programs demonstrate how CCME has evolved into a workforce ecosystem that supports Philadelphians at every stage of their career journey.
For many participants, the programs provided more than technical skills. They offered opportunities to build confidence, strengthen leadership abilities, develop professional networks, and gain valuable experience that can lead to long-term career growth.
CCME’s success is made possible through strong partnerships across the city. The Community College of Philadelphia continues to play a central role in delivering high-quality education and training opportunities, while the School District of Philadelphia helps introduce students to career pathways and workforce readiness before graduation. Philadelphia Works and additional workforce development partners have also been instrumental in connecting participants to opportunities and supporting program growth.
Whether supporting high school students exploring their next steps, Community College students considering public service careers, or current City employees looking to advance professionally, CCME continues to expand access to education, training, and economic mobility. As the program grows, it remains focused on preparing Philadelphians for meaningful careers while building a stronger workforce for the future of Philadelphia.
