June 30 is the last day to pay the 2025 Commercial Trash Fee. We recently mailed trash collection bills to nearly 27,000 Philadelphia property owners who use the City’s trash and recycling services. You may have received one and it’s due soon.
The Commercial Trash Fee is $500 and covers weekly trash pick-up by the City for the entire year. Your bill automatically splits into two installments if you don’t pay in full. The first $250 was due by December 31, 2024, and the second $250 is due by June 30, 2025. Your account will incur extra charges if you fail to pay on time and may be referred to a collection agency if you ignore your bill.
The easiest way to pay is online:
- Go to tax-services.phila.gov.
- Choose “Make an electronic payment” from the “Payments” panel.
- Under “Payment options”, choose “No”.
- Choose “Commercial Trash Fees” from the “Detail information” dropdown menu and follow the prompts.
You don’t need a username and password to pay bills on the Philadelphia Tax Center, but if you own or manage multiple properties, you might want to create one. This will let you view all your balances, receive alerts, and check payment status from a single dashboard. You can switch property accounts without signing in and out.
You can also pay:
- In person at any of our three municipal service centers. The North Philadelphia services center, at 2761 N 22nd St., is now open. Keep in mind that we do not accept Visa cards for in-person payments. You can, however, use your card to pay online. Also, we only accept cash payments at our Center City location (the Municipal Services Building, across from City Hall).
- By mail – make sure to include a payment voucher and write your OPA number on your check or money order payable to the City of Philadelphia. Mail it to the following address:
Philadelphia Dept. of Revenue
P.O. Box 966
Philadelphia, PA 19102-966
It’s easy to print a payment voucher online. You don’t need a username and password. Choose “Make a payment by mail – print a voucher” from the “Payments” panel on the homepage and follow the prompts.
You can get an exemption
You don’t have to pay the $500 fee if you use a private trash collection service or meet certain exemption criteria. You can submit a Commercial Trash Fee Exemption form through the Philadelphia Tax Center.
You’ll need a copy of your trash service agreement if you use a private hauler. Vacant lot exemptions require a copy of your current vacant property license from the Department of Licenses & Inspections. The exemption applies automatically to owner-occupied residential properties and certified houses of worship.
You must submit an exemption form every year to avoid paying this fee.
