If you use the City of Philadelphia’s trash and recycling service for your small business or multi-use property, keep an eye on your mailbox. You may have received a refuse collection bill, and it’s due by June 30.

The City of Philadelphia requires large businesses to hire a private trash and recycling removal company. But some smaller commercial properties, multi-unit residential and mixed-use properties can take advantage of the City’s service for an annual $300 fee.

Philadelphia residents who do not operate their property as a business do not pay this fee. Paying the fee is important to maintain this essential City service, which has continued during the COVID-19 emergency.

Anyone who has not paid their refuse collection bill must pay the balance due, even if it is from previous years. Many of the people receiving this letter have already paid an initial $150 installment but you’ll want to be sure you’ve paid in full by the June 30 deadline to avoid penalties and fees. So don’t waste time!

The Department of Revenue will continue to process the payments you mail in. We are not accepting in-person payments at this time, but there are many convenient and safe ways to pay:

  • Online: Pay with eCheck (FREE); debit or credit card (fees apply),
  • By mail:
