Office Of Inspector General Completes Investigation Into Personnel Director
May 15, 2008 – Inspector General (IG) Amy Kurland’s office has conducted an investigation into misconduct by Personnel Director Tanya Smith.
It was determined that Ms. Smith inappropriately manipulated the civil service exam process to benefit City employees she favored. more »

Mayor Nutter Appoints Mark Alan Hughes As Director Of Sustainability
May 14, 2008– Mayor Michael A. Nutter has appointed Dr. Mark Alan Hughes as Director of Sustainability for the City of Philadelphia. (BIO »PDF icon )
Mark joins the Nutter Administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fox Leadership Program where he has been a Distinguished Senior Fellow since 1999. He will also serve as a Senior Advisor to the Mayor. more »

Mayor Nutter Announces Help for Non-Traditional Filers to Get Federal Economic Stimulus Checks
May 13, 2008 – Mayor Michael Nutter announced today that a coalition of agencies, convened by the Mayor’s Commission on Aging, will be available until October 15th to help non-tradition filers get their tax rebate from the Federal Government. $300 is waiting for roughly 75,000 Philadelphians. Temporary Closure of North Philadelphia Municipal Services Center
The North Philadelphia Municipal Services Center located at 2761-69 North 22nd Street will be closed at noon on Wednesday, May 14th through Friday, May 16th for renovation. The Center will reopen on Monday, May 19th at its regularly scheduled time. Citizens are asked to go to the Municipal Service Center at 1401 JFK Boulevard during the renovation period. Any questions should be directed to 215-686-2463.


Mayor Nutter Joins Governor Rendell to Call for Assault Weapons Ban
May 8, 2008 - Mayor Michael A. Nutter has joined Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell in calling on the United States Congress to re-enact legislation banning the possession, manufacture, use, or importation of assault weapons. The federal assault weapons ban expired on September 13, 2004, when Congress failed to re-enact it.

Mayor Nutter Announces Appointees to the Civil Service Commission
May 6, 2008 - Today, Mayor Michael Nutter announced his appointments to the Civil Service Commission: Lynda Orfanelli, Roberto Santiago and Doris Smith. The Chairperson will be elected by the members of the Commission.

Mayor Nutter Kicks-Off Next Round of Recycling Expansion
May 5, 2008 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter today celebrated the expansion of single-stream residential recycling to 150,000 households in North Philadelphia, Northern Liberties, Frankford, Kensington, Logan, Olney and East Oak Lane. 304,000 households in Northeast, Southwest, West, South and Center City Philadelphia residences already have bi-weekly single-stream. The remaining sections of Philadelphia will get single-stream recycling by July of this year.

Philadelphia Police Officer Killed Following a Bank Robbery
May 3, 2008 – This afternoon a police officer, Sergeant Liczbinski, was shot in the Lower Northeast following a bank robbery. The officer was shot multiple times with a high-powered rifle. Mayor Michael A. Nutter, Police Commissioner Ramsey, FOP President John McNesby, Deputy Mayor Everett Gillison, and Managing Director Camille Barnett are at Temple University Hospital with the victim’s family, where the officer was pronounced dead.

Mayor Nutter, Commissioner Ramsey Announce New Crime Initiative
May 1, 2008 – This afternoon, Mayor Michael A. Nutter, Police Commissioner Ramsey, Deputy Mayor Everett Gillison, and FOP President John McNesby announced a new crime fighting initiative. Philadelphia now has an additional 248 uniformed officers on the street. This more than meets the goal stated in the January Crime Plan of having 200 more officers on the street by May 1.
