Clean & Safe Streets

 


The streets system in Philadelphia totals 2,575 miles - 2,180 miles of city streets, 35 miles of Fairmount Park roads, and 360 miles of state highways.

 

The Highway Division builds and maintains 2,040 miles of this system.

 

The Sanitation Division collects and disposes of approximately 790,000 tons of rubbish a year.

 

The Highway and Sanitation Division work together in salting and plowing 2,290 miles of streets.

 

The Bureau of Survey & Design is responsible for legal plan records and engineering services for the street system and 320 bridges.

 

The Traffic Engineering Unit has 2,800 signalized intersections, 15,000 conventional stop intersections, and 3,000 all-way stop intersections under its jurisdiction.

To ensure full access of our services to all Philadelphia citizens, the Streets Department is proud to provide language translations to citizens of limited English proficiency. Citizens may call our Customer Service Unit at 215-686-5560 for assistance with language interpretation.

If you need the assistance of an interpretation simply state your language and we will provide a translator for you.
