Logan Square Sidewalk Improvement

Sidewalk, storm drain, and ADA ramp improvements in Logan Square Park. Current project status: Completed

Jump to:

Background

Overview

Logan Square is an iconic and historic park in Center City Philadelphia that receives thousands of visitors every year and connects many key landmarks. This project focused on Logan Circle, at the center of Logan Square Park. Improvements to traffic safety and accessibility will benefit Logan Square residents, visitors, and everyone attending events along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The newly reconstructed sidewalks around Logan Circle feature more durable granite curb as well as color dyed concrete to compliment the gravel paths within Logan Circle.

While Logan Circle was closed during construction, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation (PPR) also completed work on the Swann Fountain and nearby landscaping.

Completed work

  • The 15-foot-wide outer sidewalks of Logan Circle were reconstructed.
  • The new 2,000 square yard sidewalk was constructed using over 366 cubic yards of concrete, roughly 53 concrete trucks.
  • The concrete is dyed a warm tan color to compliment the gravel paths within Logan Circle.
  • New, more durable, granite curb replaced the previous concrete curb.
  • 6 new, larger, storm drains were installed and connected to the sewer.
  • 8 curb ramps were upgraded to current ADA standard designs.
  • Painted traffic markings were refreshed, including 14 crosswalks
  • New landscaping around Logan Circle near the sidewalk was completed to restore the construction site.
