Providing one-on-one coaching for small businesses.

About

The Business Coach Program provides small business owners who are referred to the program with advisory services and support for applying for the Department of Commerce initiatives, including but not limited to:

Advisory services are provided in the following areas:

  • Bookkeeping.
  • Financial statements and reports.
  • Marketing and sales.
  • Technology adoption.
  • Sales and profit growth.
  • Compliance and regulation.
  • Hiring and retaining staff.
  • Customer service and relations.
  • Inventory management.
  • Payroll and benefits.

Process and eligibility

This program serves businesses in low-to-moderate income neighborhoods or businesses owned and operated by low-to-moderate income individuals.

To be eligible for the Business Coach Program, you must:

  • Own or manage a small business.
  • Have interest in applying for Department of Commerce programs.
  • Be ready, willing, and able to make changes. Some examples include:
    • Previous participation in a business training program, or having a past business mentor, advisor, or consultant.
    • Business owner(s) have experience developing or refining their own business plan.
    • Business owners are actively working to develop their skills and knowledge, while also making time to improve their business systems and processes.
  • Be referred to the program.

Business Coach services start with an assessment and are driven by an action plan tailored to meet the unique needs and goals of each business. Action plans are focused on financial systems, business performance, and business sustainability through efficient and effective operations.
