Air Management Services

Protecting Philadelphia’s air quality by monitoring air pollutants and enforcing regulations.

About

Air Management Services is part of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. Air pollution can cause or contribute to health conditions such as asthma. Some air pollutants also contribute to climate change.

As Philadelphia’s local air pollution agency, we work with regional and national partners to:

  • Monitor air pollutants and respond to air quality emergencies such as large fires.
  • Enforce City, state, and federal air quality regulations.
  • Issue permits and licenses to install equipment that emits or controls air pollution.
  • Issue permits and licenses to operate equipment that emits or controls air pollution.
  • Regulate asbestos-related activities.
  • Work with local individuals and businesses to help them comply with the legal requirements for construction and demolition projects.

Air Management Services values environmental justice and encourages meaningful participation from community members in all Air Management Services processes, including permitting. Learn more about our environmental justice policy.
