Philadelphians voted to add the Philadelphia Commission for Women (PWC) to the Home Rule Charter in 2017. The commission ensures that women, girls, and people who identify as female have a voice in policy-making decisions impacting them.

The PWC has 27 commissioners. Each of the 17 City councilmembers chooses a commissioner, and the mayor appoints 10 commissioners.
