The Office of Sustainability is excited to unveil the Philadelphia Municipal Energy Dashboard, a new public tool for tracking how the City of Philadelphia uses, saves, and pays for energy.

The City purchases energy to heat, cool, and power more than 600 City-owned facilities. This includes libraries, recreation centers, police stations, and office buildings. In this dashboard, users can see how Philadelphia’s municipal buildings are using energy and track the City’s progress toward key sustainability goals to:

  • Reduce carbon pollution
  • Reduce energy use
  • Generate more renewable energy, and
  • Maintain or reduce energy costs.

How to use the dashboard

The dashboard is organized into four tabs:

Summary

Track the City’s progress toward its Municipal Energy Master Plan goals. This data is verified and published in the Municipal Energy Master Plan updates every two years.

Energy

Take a closer look at energy use in the City’s building portfolio, which includes 616 facilities and more than $40 million in annual energy costs. Users can explore energy use intensity (EUI) by City building, which compares energy use over a building’s size. See which buildings are the most energy- and cost-intensive, as well as which buildings have improved the most.

Building Programs

Track the City’s progress complying to Philadelphia’s Building Energy Performance Program (BEPP). This requires large non-residential buildings to complete efficiency “tune-ups” that improve energy efficiency.

Read success stories about buildings like the Philadelphia Police Training Center & Academy at Woodhaven, which cut energy use by more than 30% after a tune-up.

Projects

See a list of the City’s major energy efficiency projects that are complete or in progress. These include energy efficiency updates to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, major downtown office buildings, and ongoing improvements at Health Centers and Homeless Services buildings.

This tool will continue updating with available data. We invite you to explore the Philadelphia Municipal Energy Dashboard!
