This month, Xiente welcomed families, youth, and community members to its Family Engagement Night. In honor of Mother’s Day and Mental Health Awareness Month, the evening’s theme was “Bloom & Breathe: A Celebration of Moms & Mental Wellness.”
Held at Xiente’s Teen Center, the event brought families together for dinner, activities, resources, and awards were given to youth who showcased exemplary personal development within their program. Mothers in attendance also received flowers and vases decorated by their children.
For many families, the event provided an opportunity to come together and connect with their peers. As attendees Sialaijah S. (Daughter) and Tynia H. (Mother) shared, “It was a lot of fun, and it was good quality time to spend together. It was our first one, and I need to tell my kids about it. They would love the game room here!”
The evening also highlighted the importance of creating safe, positive spaces for youth and families. As Mr. Meyers reflected, “My favorite part of the night was that these kids could get together and come somewhere and not be out on the streets. I’m seeing them do something productive and positive. It requires very little effort to be positive if we all help each other.”
Family Engagement events are hosted by Xiente’s Intensive Prevention Services (IPS) and Community Evening Resource Center (CERC) to bring participants and their families together through activities, resources, and opportunities to build stronger connections with one another and the community.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening a meaningful celebration of family, wellness, and community.
