Looking for a fun job? Become a Rec Leader Trainee with Parks & Rec!
Philadelphia Parks & Recreation is hiring more than 30 recreation leader trainees. Parks & Rec seeks an inclusive, diverse workforce—one that represents the diversity of our city and the communities we serve. The trainee position is the first step toward a full-time job in recreation. These jobs are fun, rewarding, and come with full benefits and union affiliation.
In 2015 Natalie Felix DiDonato began work at one of our recreation centers on a part-time basis. Once she got a taste for the work, she applied to be a recreation leader trainee.
She noted that recreation centers provide a welcoming, safe place. They are spaces where people can come together and have fun. And there’s always something new going on.
“Every day is different,” she said.
One day she may be helping kids in the afterschool program with homework. The next day, she’s coaching pee-wee basketball. Or running bingo for the visually impaired.
Felix DiDonato said her favorite part of the job is working with people from all walks of life. She enjoys connecting them with the resources they need. Being a good listener is also an important part of the job, “Sometimes people just need to be heard.”
Felix DiDonato concluded, “If you’re a people person, and enjoy learning and growing with others, this is definitely the job for you.”
